Can I hook my surface pro 3 to ud-3900 via the USB3 port or does it have to go through mini display port on sp3.

Our UD-3900 connects to the Surface Pro 3 and other computers and laptops via a single USB 3.0 port. This USB connection provides dual display output, Ethernet, and USB connectivity.

The mini DisplayPort on your Surface will not be utilized for this connection, so you are free to use it to connect another monitor.
