Can a 5V/1.7A SSD be used in a 3.5/2.5 inch SATA HDD Docking Station - USB3-SATA-UASP1 that has a 12V power supply?

I have a 2.5 inch 7mm SSD that says it requires up to 1.7A at 5V. Is it safe to plug this into a 3.5/2.5 inch SATA HDD Docking Station - USB3-SATA-UASP1 that has a 12V power supply? The Docking Station literature says it will work for both HDDs and SSDs. Is the 12V stepped down inside the Plugable unit before it gets to the SATA connector or would a typical SSD step it down?

Hello,

Thanks for contacting Plugable!

Rest assured all Plugable power adapters provide the correct amount of power to all SSD and HDD SATA drives.

For example, it is impossible for a 5V hard drive to draw more power from the power adapter than it needs to operate, let alone draw enough to cause any sort of permanent electrical damage.

Please contact support@plugable.com with any questions, thank you!
