What are the sound capabilities of Plugable USB 3.0 to HDMI / DVI Adapter?
What HDMI Spec level?
Any More audio information available?
Can my HTPC stream music to my AV Receiver?
I am Using Windows 7
Thanks for asking about our Plugable USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter http://plugable.com/products/usb3-hdm…
The adapter uses a DisplayLink chipset and is designed for output to a monitor or TV (including those with speakers). It’s a little off the beaten path in using it for an audio-only solution, so there may be things we don’t anticipate.
As long as the AV Receiver is detected as connected on HDMI, you can use it to stream from your HTPC to the receiver. Windows only allows one audio device to take output at a time, so if you’re not getting audio, just open the Windows “Sound” control panel and set the default audio device to the Plugable USB audio output.
In theory, the DisplayLink chip has support for HDMI 1.3 and 5.1 surround at the hardware level (see the DisplayLink spec sheet here http://www.displaylink.com/pdf/DL-3x0…), but the DisplayLink Windows driver is currently stereo. See the control panel screen shots below for details on what the DisplayLink Windows Audio driver exposes.
That’s all the info we have. Let us know if you have more specific questions about a particular use scenario. Hope that helps,
