3TB partition

#1

I am trying to format a 3TB Hitachi Deskstar 7200rpm drive, using Win7 Ultimate 64 bit. I have my Plugable U3 docking station connected via USB2 (my computer does not have USB3).

In Win7 Disk Management the largest partition I can select is 2048GB, which leaves an unallocated partition of 746GB. I would really like to have one partition for the entire drive.

Hi kentphelan,

Thanks for posting your question here, I’ll be happy to help. Here’s a link from Microsoft with information about the 2.2TB limitation of older bios based systems:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2581408

And here’s one with a work around that should apply to your drive:

I hope this helps, let me know how it goes, and if there’s anything else I can help with.

Jerome.
