Latest upgrade to windows 10 home has meant that the VLC video output will freeze on extended displays using the plugable USB to HDMI for no reason. Main screen is fine but the extended screens wont play. Weirdly Youtube works fine.

Hi Daz, thanks for posting! I am sorry to hear of this issue and I’ll be happy to help!

Interesting behavior you describe that we have not encountered before. Would you be able to let us know the version of VLC that you are running as well as the specific model of computer you are using? I’d like to do some research to see if there’s anything to give us some clues and determine best steps to proceed.

One thing that we could try is to reinstall the DisplayLink software and run the DisplayLink cleaner tool to make sure that the software that our adapter uses is in a good state. To do so, please follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect the dock/adapter from the system and please remove the power cable (if applicable) from the dock/adapter so it turns off completely. Please keep it disconnected until the last step
  2. Uninstall the DisplayLink Core software from the Control Panel -> Programs and Features. Don’t worry if this fails, just move onto the next step
  3. Download, extract and run the DisplayLink cleaner tool, found here –> http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/… and ensure it displays “Cleaning Complete” when done (video walk-through -> https://youtu.be/AcVV1gD_FvI)
  4. Once the Cleaner has been run, reboot (even if not prompted to)
  5. Now download and install the 8.0 M3 DisplayLink software, found here –> https://s3.amazonaws.com/plugable/bin…
  6. Reconnect the adapter/dock to your system and test the behavior
