Many thanks Bob for pointing out that this laptop is not Thunderbolt 3 and for recommending the USB-C Triple Display Dock.
I see that this dock has a 20V 5A power input. Will this charge the Asus q325ua over the host USB-C port? I recently tested a Dell WD15 which has a 19.5V 9.23A power input. It would charge the laptop when powered off, but upon boot into Windows 10 the laptop would not charge. Because the Triple Dock uses a similar fixed voltage power supply I am concerned that it may not charge over the host USB-C port.
The laptop ships with a USB C charger that outputs 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 15V/3A and 20V/3.25A. I’m trying to identify a dock that has the same or compatible characteristics for power delivery and will charge when OS is booted.

One more point I wanted to mention is that, according to the Asus web-site their Universal Dock works with all Asus laptops and uses a 19V,4.74A power supply. I would prefer to get the Plugable dock as has a better port configuration.

To your current question, the specifications for the power adapter for the dock itself do not necessarily reflect the power that is provided to the host system via the USB-C cable. To expand further…
The power adapter for the dock has to provide not only the necessary power to charge the host system, but also power the internal components of the dock itself. The USB-C Power Delivery standard defines different power profiles that can be provided to a host system, the most powerful of which our dock provides is 20V at 3A for a total of 60W of power to the host.
The Dell dock you mention supports similar standards, so that the Asus system did not charge when it was in use may speak to a host system incompatibility with 3rd-party docks (we can’t be sure though as we don’t have your model system in our lab).
The Asus Universal Dock (https://www.asus.com/Laptops-Accessor…) does not appear to provide power on its own, but rather makes us of ‘pass-through’ charging in conjunction with the original Asus power adapter.
Given your result with the Dell dock, I am afraid I would not recommend purchasing the Plugable dock for your system as I worry you might encounter similar results. Apologies if that sounds overly negative, but we like to do our best to set honest expectations up front to help prevent frustration later on.

Thank you for your feedback on this. I picked up a Startech Triple-4K Monitor USB-C Docking Station (DK30CH2DPPD) which uses DisplayLink and it is charging the Asus laptop very nicely. So I am leaning towards the Plugable USB-C Triple Display Dock (UD-ULTCDL) also being compatible. According to forums, the Dell WD15 I mentioned has a host of challenges, even with Dell laptops. Although I may not have become a Plugable customer (yet) I’ve been staying up to date with your products ever since you did all the great work with the Dell Venue 8 Pro a couple of years ago.
Forgot to mention that DisplayLink docks tend to have great compatibility and DisplayPort may not, although that may have nothing to do with the charging issue I experienced on the Dell WD15.
