usb to serial on mac mountian lion

hey. I’ve got a macbook with 10.8.2 on it, followed the drivers and directions to a T and i’m validating on all your checks, but i still can’t get this to go. trying to connect a garmin rino 120 with garmin’s mapping software. Thank you!

I’m using the plugable D12-00031120

Hi Cody-

Thanks for contacting Plugable support, we’ll be happy to help get you connected!

Can you please let us know how far through this process you got? http://plugable.com/2011/07/12/instal…

Specifically, if you open a terminal window and enter the following command, do you get any response? If not your driver installation may not have completed successfully.

kextstat | grep prolific

should return something like

121 0 0xffffff7f81e71000 0x8000 0x8000 com.prolific.driver.PL2303 (2.0.0)

Can you please let me know what you get when you try that command?

Thanks!

Jeff

Jeff,

I am trying to connect my Garmin Rino 120 to my Macbook Pro also.

Mac OS X 10.7.5

I have a new plug-able USB to serial converter.

I need some assistance getting this to work.

Randys-MacBook-Pro:~ mosski$ kextstat | grep prolific
116 0 0xffffff7f81968000 0x8000 0x8000 com.prolific.driver.PL2303 (2.0.0)

This is what i get when I use the above command?

Please advise,

Randy

Hi Randy-

Thanks for posting.

The output you posted confirms that the Prolific driver is loaded, so it looks like you’re on the right track. With the adapter plugged in, ytu should be able to proceed with the steps posted here: http://plugable.com/2011/07/12/instal…

The portion covering creating the device in network connections is the next major part of the process.

Please let us know if you have other questions or encounter an error.

Best wishes-

Jeff

Hi all.

I have the exact same problem. I ran the tutorial endless times but I seem unable to get this to work. The device is detected and I’m using a null modem cable yet I can’t communicate.

Can you please help?

Hi Jorge-

Thanks for posting.

For assistance with the Plugable USB to Serial adapter, please send a mail to support@plugable.com with your Amazon order ID and the output from our support tool, PlugDebug. Instructions to download and use PlugDebug are here:
http://plugable.com/support/plugdebug

The details provided by PlugDebug will help us to see whether the device is recognized, whether the appropriate driver is loading, as well as whether the appropriate network connection exists.

I’ll also need to know what device you are connecting the serial cable to at the other end, eg. a sign, GPS unit, vinyl cutter, or whatever the device you wish to communicate with is.

For your own protection, please do not post this personal information to our forum, please instead email support@plugable.com.

Best wishes-
