Unable to connect second monitor

Operating System = Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit) with Service Pack 1.
I’ve connected this PC through a USB 2.0 port to the Plugable UD-3900 Dual Display Universal Docking Station
Connected to the docking station I have;

  • 1 Wireless logitech Keyboard/mouse combo

  • 1 Ethernet (cat5) cable for network access

  • 1 HP LA2205wg monitor from the DVI port on the Docking Station to the DVI port on the Monitor (Works great)

  • 1 HP LA2205wg monitor from the HDMI port on the Docking Station to the Display Port on the Monitor (NOT WORKING)

The second monitor is NOT working.

  • I am using a cable with an HDMI connector on the end connected to the Docking Station and a Display Port connection on the end connected to the monitor.

  • I suspect that I need a “DisplayLink” adapter, but the PLUGABLE DISPLAYPORT TO HDMI DP MALE TO HDMI FEMALE 4K ACTIVE adapter is NOT BIDIRECTIONAL and appears to be designed for applications where the Display Port is on the Device sending the signal, vs. the monitor, as in my case.

  • Other port options available on the second monitor include DVI and VGA only. (Please note that I’m already using the existing DVI port on the Docking Station with the first monitor.)

  • How can I connect the HDMI connection on my Plugable UD-3900 Dual Display Universal Docking Station to the Display Port, DVI Port or VGA port on the second monitor and make it work?

I figured it out!
I was able to find an HDMI to DVI adaptor… This worked like a champ!

Mike also reached out to us directly (and we have replied already) but for the benefit of anyone else following this thread, an HDMI output cannot be converted to a DisplayPort input.

A cable with a DisplayPort connector on one end and an HDMI connector on the other is only meant to work in one direction, from a DisplayPort output to a HDMI input, not the other way around. A HDMI to DVI cable however, can work in either direction.

We also wrote about the video cables options for our UD-3900 dock here -> https://plugable.com/2015/07/06/video…

Thank you,

Bob
