UGA-2K-A going on and off on new Win 10 Lenovo X1

My 3rd gen X1 with Windows 7 died, so I put my trusty adapter on a new 5th generation X2. It installed and worked great for 3 days. Now, at intervals, the monitor goes black and reports “no signal”. The light is out on your adapter when this happens. Also, my mouse is frozen. Sometimes it also reports that the signal being received by it is non-supported. This problem clears after about 10 seconds, but clearly it makes it difficult to use the monitor.
The new PC: Windows 10, 16GB RAM. The Plugable adapter is on a USB port on the new “Thinkpad Hybrid USB-C with USB-A Dock”. I am separately running two other monitors. Your adapter is connected to a V7 LED215W2R. I have the control panel for Displays open and at the moment when the monitor goes blank, the monitor also disappears from the control panel. Note that I have also verified that I have your latest drivers.
Next morning, I substituted different USB and DVI cables. After boot the UGA was not active. I swapped it to a different USB port on the same root hub and it came back online, so that was not particularly conclusive to me.

Hi There,

Thank you so much for reaching out to us, I am sorry to hear that you are running into this issue, but I would be more than happy to assist!

Based on the description of the issue, I am concerned that the individual USB dock/hub you are connecting the adapter to is experiencing disconnecting or interference issues. Is it possible to connect the adapter directly to your system and see if the same issue occurs?

Thank you for your patience,
Marc

Hi Everyone,

We attempted to reach out to JG and see if it was possible to obtain some additional information, and see if the adapter would work if directly connected to the system, instead of via the dock, but we have not received a response back.

If JG would like to continue troubleshooting the issue, or if anyone else is running into the same issue, please feel free to reach out to us directly at support@plugable.com.

Thank you for your time,

Hello Mark,
I am sorry, I didn’t see a notification of your first reply and request for info. The adapter did work correctly when directly connected to the laptop.

I think I may have an answer after some experimentation. I think that the problem occurred because of powering up in a bad sequence. I realized that the PC was sometimes waking up from standby when the dock did not have power. As far as I can tell, this may have caused the PC monitor screen to be marked active, hence there were 4 monitors. I have only been able to replicate the effect a couple of times, and the winking out happens again, and I have observed that the closed PC monitor was on the list. The winking happens even if I mark the PC monitor to be inactive.

If I follow this sequence carefully then the problem does not repeat:
First, I am no longer putting my system to sleep.
For startup, with X1 lid closed, I power up the monitors, then the dock, then activate the PC.
Regards,
JG
