uga 165 usb - vga adapter. no sound

When i move anything that involves sound to the second monitor, the sound cuts out.

Hello Scott,

I am very sorry to hear this but VGA is not designed to carry sound, rather video only. None of the adapters included in the retail package (DVI to VGA, DVI to HDMI -> http://plugable.com/products/uga-165) have the ability to pass along the sound signal. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Kind regards,

Hello again Scott,

I might be also misinterpreting this problem. If you are talking about the sound coming out of your laptop or PC speakers, we might have a different problem. What are the specs of your computer (CPU, amount of RAM, GPU)? When you open your task manager and then move the window to the external monitor, do you see the system max out?

Kind regards,

Ah yes perhaps i should have specified. I am working with a PC and just want two monitors. I am using an external sound card ( for music recording purposes) or an “audio interface”. I wonder if that could be the problem. My computer is:

HP p6720f
AMD phenom 2 X4 840 processor 2.90 GHz
6 GB RAM
64 bit

Hi Scott,

Your setup does NOT strike me as an underpowered PC, but I think you are on to something by mentioning the external sound card. I can take a detailed look with PlugDebug to see if we can update any drivers/firmware, but you would need to contact me directly since this forum does no allow attachments.

Please contact me directly at support@plugable.com and use “Ticket # #85784” as a subject for reference to this thread. Please also attach a PlugDebug (http://plugable.com/support/plugdebug) and I will take it from there.

Kind regards,
