Thunderbolt 3 controller in Acer Aspire VN7-592G display support?

In reference to the Thunderbolt 3 support reference page:
http://plugable.com/thunderbolt-3/sup…

Now that NVM 15 firmware is available for the Acer Aspire V Nitro Black Edition (VN7-592G) laptop, what are the specifications for the displays it supports?

Currently on the site it lists the most recent firmware as v9, but since the v15 firmware was released by Acer a few days ago what does the support matrix look like now? Does the laptop support dual display adapters or only one?

Unfortunately the NVM update doesn’t appear to work. We tried it here and the updater doesn’t detect the Thunderbolt 3 controller.

There is an ongoing thread on the Acer forums about the issue:
http://community.acer.com/t5/V-and-VN…

So until Acer resolve this issue, the laptop is still not compatible.

Josh, the update applied fine for me.

When you run it, the first time your computer will reboot. The first part of the update is basically telling the controller to ‘wake up’

Then, you run the same updater step again and it will detect it and apply the actual firmware update, taking around 10 minutes to complete.

Once that is done, you have to entirely power off the laptop, remove the power cable, and unscrew the single marked screw near the middle of the bottom that causes the battery to disconnect.

Wait about 60 seconds, return the battery screw, plug in the system, and boot up. Voila, firmware 15 is installed!

(I ran it manually from the download on the acer site, not via the acer updater application)

I can confirm that before the update, I was unable to network two computers together via thunderbolt 3 (the Acer and a Dell). Connecting them would wake up the USB-C controller, but not the Thunderbolt controller.

Since upgrading to NVM 15, the two computers now recognize eachother, and connecting them together does wake up the thunderbolt controller and allows it to appear in device manager, so the firmware update has actually made thunderbolt usable in that sense for the Acer.

Unfortunately I do not own any thunderbolt accessories other than the two computers and the cable, so I am unable to test with any displays.

Hello,

Unfortunately the update did not work on our system, so we cannot confirm if our products will be compatible or not at this time.

It did reboot the first time, but the second time it did not detect the controller. Subsequent retries results in the same non-detect situation like others on the forums are seeing.

I’m sorry but we’re probably going to have to contact Acer and see if they have any suggestions.
