support 1600x900 20" monitor??

Hi,

Does Plugable UGA-2K-A USB 2.0 to VGA/DVI/HDMI Adapter for Multiple Monitors up to 2048x1152 / 1920x1200 Each (DisplayLink DL-195 Chipset), support 1600x900 20" monitor??

I found only these info at plugable website.

"The hardware is capable of supporting nearly arbitrary resolutions, up to its limit of 2048×1152. VESA standard and widescreen resolutions are supported by most software, including:

2048×1152, 1920×1200, 1920×1080, 1600×1200, 1680×1050, 1400×1050, 1280×1024, 1280×768, 1152×864, 1024×768, 800×600, 640×480"

Thx

I have intel duo at 2.1 ghz , 4 gb memory,and 8800gts m graphic…nvidia. 512mb memory.

Thanks for posting and for asking ahead!

The short answer is: Yes, no problem, if you have a 1600x900 native monitor, that mode will be supported.

Here’s more background:

The DisplayLink chip is actually able to physically set any mode (with any timings), up to its max pixel resolution/max pixel clock.

So it’s just a question of what modes are offered at the driver and Windows level.

The way that works varies a little between operating systems, but is there is a basic set of VESA graphics modes that are offered on any monitor, and then to that are added:

  1. The full timings of the native mode of the monitor, returned by the monitor itself via its EDID information (which the graphics device reads back over the VGA/DVI cable)
  2. Any secondary/backup modes the monitor offers via its EDID

And then any resolutions that are too high for the adapter itself is removed. Now, finally, it is that list of modes is offered to the user (and the native mode #1 is set as the initial / default mode).

So the reason why 1600x900 is not offered on all monitors, is it’s not one of the default standard modes. But the reason why it will work on a 1600x900 native monitor is because that monitor will return the mode as its native/preferred mode (#1 above), and so when you first bring up the adapter it will find and choose that mode without you needing to do anything.

Lots of gory detail there, hope the background was interesting

But, again, the short answer is you should have no problem. As always, please just post back here if you have any trouble at all.

Thanks again!

Awesome, Bernie

Thx, I already purchased one and will get it in a week. Looking foward to hook it up…Nowdays all 20" monitors are 1600x900,
