Sound drops over headphone jack of the USB-C docking station

I am using the USC-C docking station with a 13" touch bar macbook pro, everything works fine except the sound over the docking station’s headphone jack.

Every 30 to 60 seconds I get very short sound drop or stuttering, it is nothing too bad and not easy to notice at first but gets annoying after some time. When I plug the headphones directly into the macbook the issue is solved, so it has to be sound card of the docking station.

My setup: MacBook Pro via USB-C to docking station. Network cable, one USB and all three display connectors are used.

Hi Julian, thanks for posting! I am sorry to hear of this behavior while connected to our dock and I will be happy to help!

We offer a couple separate USB-C docking stations, would you be able to let us know the model that is labeled on the bottom of the dock whenever you have a chance?

Thank you,

David W.

This is the one I have

Hi Julian, thanks for the reply. Not much to check from a software perspective on Mac systems regarding the DisplayLink driver other than making sure that you are running the latest DisplayLink Mac driver from here –> http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/…. The audio jack on our dock utilizes DisplayLink drivers in order to work.

Otherwise, we will want to send you a pre-tested replacement docking station to make sure that the hardware is working properly. Please reach out to our direct support email address at support@plugable.com with ‘Ticket Number 172945’ in the subject line. Additionally, please include your Amazon Order ID number for your purchase, the serial number from the bottom of the dock and your preferred shipping address to send the replacement and we will be able to get the process underway.

Thank you,

Hi David,

those are the drivers I have already installed. To make sure I listened to some music for 2 hours. 1 hour over the docking station and 1 hour over the internal connection of my macbook pro. Something is definitely wrong with the port on the plugable station. At least one stutter or hickup in every song, often more.

We do not have an amazon order ID though. I am only using the docking station at work and our company orders hardware from some other reseller. I can try to figure that out though. I can also not send in the old model without having a new one first, since my daily workflow relies on it now.

Hi Julian, thanks for the reply. We would not require you to return the original unit before sending the replacement. If you are based in the United States, we would provide a pre-paid shipping label to return the unit pending the results with the replacement. If you are outside of the US, we would not require you to return the original unit as we don’t want to incur international shipping charges onto you.

If you are able to send a photo of the dock’s serial number and let us know your preferred shipping address to support@plugable.com we’d be able to begin the replacement process and if you are able to track down an Order ID or confirmation that would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Hi David,

we are from Germany I am afraid. I should get the Order ID or confirmation next week. It will take accounting a few days to process my request ;). I will then send all the information needed to your support address.

Thank you very much for the help!
