Resolution issue with USB-C to DP cable

Just received pluggable USB-C to DP cable. I have connected my MacBook Pro 15 (2017) into a Dell UP2715K display and I am getting a resolution of only 2560x1440. When I plug my iMac Retina 5K late 2015 in using Thunderbolt 2 to miniDP cable I get a resolution of 3840x2160. With the Dell Aurora using 2 DP cables I get the full resolution of 5,120 x 2,880.
If I purchase a second pluggable USB-C to DP cable and connect the MacBookPro with both cables will I get the full 5K resolution?

Hello Stephen, thank you for posting.

We have not tested our cable with any 5K monitor, so I cannot guarantee this to work. In looking at the manual of the monitor here –> http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all… it appears that things may be behaving as expected as page 11 of the manual mentions the below details:

It is certainly worth a try to use two USBC-DP cables, but again, we cannot guarantee it to work. However, what is interesting is that you mention you are only achieving 2560x1440 with one of our cables connected. The manual seems to indicate that one DP cable should be able to support 3840x2160. Can you confirm if this resolution is present in the MacOS Display Settings if you had wanted to try to get a 4K resolution with one cable?

If you elect to try, we’d be happy to assist with any troubleshooting or a return for full refund if you find that our cables do not work to achieve a 5K resoluton.

Thank you,

I will order a second cable from Amazon and try that.

Discovered I can get 5K from the iMac using 2 mDP to DP cables:

I will return the USB-C to DP cable to Amazon and order a USB-C to miniDP cable and run the MacBook Pro at 4K

Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply and glad to hear that you found a solution!

My MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2015) can support the Dell 5K with two Mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cables.

The MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017) should be able to do the same with two USB-C to DP cables.

That will use up two Thunderbolt 3 ports, so you may want to use a Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DisplayPort adapter instead.

If you have a Thunderbolt 3 dock, or any Thunderbolt 3 device with two Thunderbolt 3 ports and a DisplayPort, then you can use a USB-C to DisplayPort cable and a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, both connected to the dock to get 5K.
