Power Adapter for DC-125

Would this power adapter work with the DC-125?

http://www.amazon.com/Power-Supply-AD…

I’ve tried several adapters that I have around the house without success. From what I can tell, the problem is that they don’t supply 2.5A.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for contacting us, we’ll be able to help. From the Amazon listing, it’s hard to tell that power supply will work with the DC-125. It does say that it supplies .5 A so it won’t provide much additional power beyond what’s already being provided by the USB connection.

Can you say a bit more about the application that you are using your DC-125 for that requires extra power? It’s designed to be able to run the DisplayLink graphics chip, the audio devices and two low powered USB devices like a mouse and keyboard from the 500 mA that’s available from the USB connection.

Let us know and we’ll figure out a solution for your needs.

Thanks,
Jerome.

Hi Jerome,

“It does say that it supplies .5 A so it won’t provide much additional power beyond what’s already being provided by the USB connection.” Oh, I see. I was looking at the title of that adapter, which stated that it gave 2.5 A. I didn’t check the description.

I won’t to be able to charge an iPhone off of one of the USB ports without having the DC-125 connected to a computer via USB. Would that be possible with a power adapter? If so, what should I purchase?

Thanks for the help.

won’t = want

Hi Sam,

The description on the adapter is contradictory to the title so it’s hard to know for sure about compatibility. Have you purchased your DC-125 or are you still planning on what device to buy?

Apple charging is a bit different than other devices, so it’s not easy to charge them with out a computer attached or apple proprietary chargers. We have a blog post addressing the details:

Let me know if that helps and if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Jerome.

Hi Jerome,

Thanks for the reply. I’ve had the DC-125 for a year or so. I was just looking to have it charge the iPhone without the computer hooked up. Thanks for directing me to that post. I won’t bother going that route.

Thanks again,
sam

You’re welcome, Sam.

Apple charging is tricky… I hope you find a solution that works for you.

Thanks again,
Jerome.

I’ve got my DC-125 set up with a VGA monitor, speakers, wireless USD keyboard, and a five-port USB hub attached. It regularly goes on the fritz cutting out audio, cutting out all the attached devices and then re-connecting them(This model did exactly the same thing - Plugable USB 2.0 Universal Laptop Docking Station with DisplayLink DVI/VGA up to 1920x1080, Audio, Ethernet, and 4 Available High-Speed USB 2.0 Ports). I returned the docking station and am about to do the same with the DC-125, but wanted to try using it with a power cord. Pls. let me know how to get a cord and I’ll give that a shot. Many thanks. -D. !](https://d37wxxhohlp07s.cloudfront.net/s3_images/769309/banner-Hulk_inline.jpg?1343257732)](https://d37wxxhohlp07s.cloudfront.net/s3_images/769309/banner-Hulk.jpg?1343257732)

Hi Danny,

Thanks for posting, sorry about the frustration. It sounds like you may be surpassing the available power of the Docking Station. If you want to connect a hub to the DC-125, you’ll need to make sure it’s a powered hub and the AC adapter is connected and supplying power.

Can you say a bit more about the peripherals you have connected to the hub and what model of hub you have and we’ll see if we can get a working solution for you.

Thanks,
Jerome.

Plugable Technologies

The USB hub is indeed powered and the power cord is attached appropriately (power light is on). It’s a Staples 7-port USB 2.0 desktop hub. The specs on the DC-125 don’t give the size of the DC 5v connector. Would you pls let me know the specs on the adaptor so I can see if powering the docking station fixes the issue?
Thx.

Got input about the apdator specs? Would like to get this resolved pronto. Thx. -D.

Hi Danny,

Because the UD-160-A didn’t work with your setup and it does have a power supply, we don’t expect that a power supply for the DC-125 will help.

To troubleshoot where the issue is stemming from run the DC-125 with only a USB mouse and keyboard in addition to the audio and video outputs. Does it remain stable?

I’d like you run the DisplayLink Support tool and forward the resulting .zip file to us at support@plugable.com. Here’s a link with instructions on how to do that:

http://plugable.com/support/tools/dis…

With your log files please include a link to this thread as well as a bit more information about your hub and the peripherals attached to it like the Power rating of the AC adapter and the make and model of the devices attached to it.

The log files and the extra device data will help us get a clear picture of the set up and figure out the best resolution.

Thanks,
Jerome.
