Plugable USB-C Dock HDMI audio output not working

Hi,

I have the Plugable USB-C Docking Station connected to my MacBook with HDMI output to my Monitor. My HDMI audio output suddenly stopped working and I have no idea what the problem is. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi Nicolai,

Thanks for posting, and I would be happy to help with your UD-CA1A docking station!

Based on your description of the behavior, the first thing to double-check is that the correct sound output device is selected with Sound Preferences. If you follow the steps described here -> https://support.apple.com/kb/ph25370 to set the default sound device to be the HDMI monitor with the speakers, does that help get the audio working properly again?

Thank you,

Bob

Hi Bob,

I have selected USB Advanced Audio Device instead of Internal speakers, but there is no sound. It works perfectly if I connect the speakers directly to the docking station, but for some reason it stopped working through HDMI.

Hi Nicolai,

Thanks for getting back so quickly! The ‘USB Advanced Audio Device’ you have selected only refers to the analog audio output jack on the front of the dock.

If you wish the sound to route to the HDMI monitor and the monitor’s internal speakers, you should select the option in Sound Preferences that represents your monitor (not the USB Advanced Audio device).

If the option for your monitor is not present, please shut down the system completely (do not just restart) then power the system back on and check the settings again.

Thank you,

Bob

Hi Bob,

Thank you for the clarification. I will give it a try and let you know.

Thanks,

Nicolai

Shutting down the system and the dock did the trick.

Thank you so much.

Thank you for getting back Nicolai, and you are of course most welcome for the help. I am glad to hear that things are now working as expected.

Please let us know if you need any help in the future!

Bob
