Macbook Pro Touch Bar AudioEngine 2+ Speakers - No Sound

My MacBook no longer can send audio to my AudioEngine 2+ speakers via the TBT3-UDV. The dock is listed in Prefs->Audio as an audio device but the speakers are not listed. So if I pick the TBT3-UDV the sound is not passed. If I plug the speakers directly into MacBook the sound passes OK. The AudioEngine speakers were working with the TBT3-UDV so I don’t know what wrong. I have tried various USB ports on the TBT3-UDV to no avail.

Hi Dan,

Thank you for posting! I am sorry things have stopped working as expected with your docking station and I would be happy to help.

One quick question for you…are the AudioEngine speakers connected directly to one of the USB 3.0 ports in the back of the dock? Or by chance is there an external USB hub in between the Plugable dock and the AudioEngine speakers? If there is an external USB hub in between, please disconnect it temporarily to help rule it out as a contributor to the current behavior.

One configured in that manner, based on your description our first step is to completely reset the dock and your MacBook Pro to help ensure both are in a good state. If you would, please follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect the dock’s Thunderbolt 3 cable from both the laptop and the dock, and disconnect the dock’s power cable so it turns off completely.

  2. Shutdown the MacBook Pro completely (do not just restart).

  3. Power on the MacBook Pro and login.

  4. Reconnect the power cable to the dock, and then reconnect the Thunderbolt 3 cable to the dock first, and then the laptop.

  5. With the AudioEngine speakers connected directly to one of the USB 3.0 ports on the back of dock (no USB hub in between) test the behavior again.

Please let us know if that helps!

Fixed. Thank You. Any idea what happened?

Hi Dan,

Thanks for getting back, and I am glad to hear (no pun intended) that the speakers are again working properly.

To you question, I cannot be sure of the cause. If pressed to guess, the I would presume the laptop most likely just needed to be completely restarted.

Please let us know if you need any help in the future, and please have a good day!
