Jerky graphics on secondary monitor

I’m using the displaylink usb3 on a dell XPS 9560 with nVidia GTX1050 option, connected to 2x iiyama 1920x1080 monitors.

Using a flight sim, I have good framerate on the laptop screen, but when I move the window to one of the secondary monitors, it becomes jerky.

Whats causing this, and can it be fixed?

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much for reaching out to us, I am sorry that you are running into this issue, but I would be happy to assist!

First, I do want to advise you that all of our DisplayLink based devices are not recommended for gaming, as performance related issues like the one you are experiencing can occur. We make sure to point this out via the product pages and Amazon listings. This is due to the incompatibility of virtualized graphics drivers being utilized, and games not knowing the right communication factors when a dedicated or integrated graphics card is used in unison with the DisplayLink drivers and devices.

I would be happy to review the log files from our PlugDebug output to see if any driver updates or software installation may add a little better experience when utilizing the devices. When you have a moment, please head to www.plugable.com/support/plugdebug and send over the output of the PlugDebug application, as well as the Amazon Order ID Number associated with your product to support@plugable.com. Please include “Ticket No. 199605” on the subject line.

Thank you for your time,

Thanks Marc, ive done that.

The XPS has a thunderbolt 3 port too. Would it be better to use that instead?

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much for sending it over! I am currently reviewing the individual log files now, and I will make sure to send over a response via email if I see anything that is out of date or needs to be changed.

The Thunderbolt 3 port would be great to use, but we do not advise utilizing a conversion adapter to connect the USB 3 device to the Thunderbolt port. The main concern is how the individual driver is utilized during gaming. We do not recommend utilizing our DisplayLink based device in this manner, due to the system, game and graphics driver not interacting well with the DisplayLink driver.

I’ve disconnected the Displaylink, cleaned all the drivers, and connected a tbt3-dp2x

I dont get anything on the external monitors… any ideas?

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much for reaching back out to us! I am sorry to hear that you are running into similar issues with the TBT3-DP2X, but I would be happy to help!

I want to review a couple of items on your system. When you have a moment, could you please visit this link -> http://plugable.com/thunderbolt-3/sup… and work through the instructions for looking up the Thunderbolt firmware and NVM information at the bottom of the page. Once you have a screenshot available, please attach it and email it directly to our support email at support@plugable.com, with “Ticket no. 199605” in the subject line!

Thank you for your patience,

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much for sending over the image of your Thunderbolt 3 firmware and NVM information. I am reviewing the file now, but I just wanted to ask for a small amount of information as well. What individual displays are you connecting to the adapter, and how are they connected? Are you utilizing 2 DisplayPort to DisplayPort cables, or conversion cables? (i.e HDMI to DisplayPort)

My replies to you are not getting through. I have now replied twice to your email, and no response…

I’m using 2 x Iiyama B2409HDS monitors connected to the adapter using displayport to DVI cables.

Recieived the replacement unit, thanks.

But, its the same… no difference at all.

I’m starting to wonder if it could be the cables.?
