Invalid Format

I have an HP laptop running Windows 7. I obtained a 2KHDMI USB Adapter. I have 2 USB ports, neither of which appear to be blue. I downloaded the plugable drivers and installed them successfully. I was prompted to also download and install Renesas drivers which I did. The adapter is recognized by the laptop and seems to be connected and working. This is connected to an LG LCD 42inch TV via the port labeled HDMI/DVI 1. The TV screen indicates “no input” and “invalid format”. The laptop has an Intel Core i5 processor at 2.5GHz. Device manager says USB ports are working properly.
How do I resolve the “invalid format” issue?

Could you please keep everything connected and send us the output of our diagnostic utility PlugDebug –> http://plugable.com/support/plugdebug as this will allow us to examine some log files from your system to help determine the next steps. Once the application completes, please attach the .zip file located on your desktop to a direct email to our support email address, support@plugable.com, with “Ticket No. 208413” in the subject line.

Also, would it be possible to obtain the individual model number of the display you are attempting to connect?
