I can't get it in.

Amazon Order# 103-6532196-2503443. I’m trying to install my new USB 3.0 PCI-E Card. The card edge that plugs into the PCI slot has three tabs; two with traces and one blank. When poitioned correctly to plug it in the blank tab centers itself over the end of the PCI slot so I cannot insert the card into the slot. Is it intended that this tab be removed if it lines up like this?

Hi Lawson,

Thanks for posting! No, definitely not - the PCI Express USB 3.0 card should fit right in. If it looks wrong, we need to step back and figure out what’s happening.

Quick question: Do you have the make/model of the system or motherboard, so we could look it up to see if anything is usual with it?

Thanks for your patience!
Bernie

Hi Bernie,
Thanks for getting back so soon. Yes I do have the information you seek. I built the computer in May, 2003. The Motherboard is Intel D845GEBV2; The chip set is the Intel 845GE. Data Bus Speed is 533MHz. Slots: PCI, Slots From Factor: Socket 478.

I have pictures of the card in position that shows the PCI Slot and the blank tab alinement.

I have two more but don’t know how many I can send. If you need them, let me know. Thanks,
Lawson

Hi Lawson,

Ah, unfortunately that explains it! Our PCIe USB 3.0 card (http://plugable.com/products/usb3-pci… ) requires PCIe (PCI Express) slots, whereas the motherboard in your picture only supports older PCI cards. Wikipedia has good background on PCI vs. PCI Express: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

I don’t know whether there are any tricks that could be applied to upgrade an older (circa 2003) system like this to USB 3.0. Sorry.

Thank you Bernie. This is the best email support I’ve worked with, period. I’ve dealt with everything from no response at all to no clue what I was talking about to answers completely unrelated to the question. I’ll return the card through Amazon. Thanks again.
