Game maxed at 60 fps when using an external monitor via docking station

I have a BenQ GW2765HT monitor and a Dell XPS 9560 laptop. I have a problem playing games with UD-3900 docking station.

I can play League of Legends at stable 120 fps on my laptop or on my external monitor if it is directly connected to the laptop via HDMI. But if I connect the monitor via UD-3900 docking station using USB 3.0, it barely holds 60 fps and constantly drops, no matter what settings or resolution I use. I haven’t had much problem while watching Netflix or anything except when gaming.

What can I do to fix?

Hello 5are,

Thanks for reaching out and posting on our forums! I appreciate the description of the behavior you are seeing, and unfortunately, this is behavior we would expect when gaming while using our docking station. We do call out on the Amazon product listing and Plugable.com product page that we do not recommend our docking stations for gaming - only office/productivity application uses are recommended - due to the issues such as the lower FPS you are currently experiencing. We do our best to call this out on our product pages, but we are always looking for better ways to convey these technical details.

I am sorry to say that there is nothing that I can suggest in order to increase FPS while using our dock when gaming. If you’d like, I’d be happy to explore return options if the issue you’re encountering means the docking station would not be a good fit for you. To get started please send us an email to support@plugable.com with your Order ID and I can get this started, we wouldn’t want you left with a docking station that did not meet your needs!

I wasn’t planning on using the product for gaming so no worries. I was simply curious why it was happening just for gaming and wanted to know if it’s a hardware or software issue.

Hello 5are,

Thanks for understanding! Let us know if there’s anything we can do for you in the future!
