Display Venue 8 Pro onto a projector - mirroring the computer screen

How do I connect my dell venue 8 pro and the plugable usb 3.0 display adapter (VGA) so that whatever is shown on the dell screen - shows on the VGA projector as well. I don’t want to use the projector as a second screen - I just want to mirro what I have on the dell venue 8 pro…

Hi Gil,

I’d be happy to answer your question regarding the Dell Venue 8 Pro and our products.

First, in order to connect the Dell Venue 8 Pro to any of our display products, you’ll need to purchase an OTG cable which allows you to connect a display adapter.

Then, when connecting to a monitor or projector, if you wish to use mirror the Dell Venue 8 Pro display, simply go into the ‘Project’ settings under devices and select ‘Mirror.’

As a note, since you have the USB3-VGA display adapter you may have problems with a projector, please take a look at the following blog post for more information:

Thanks Stephen.

That method does not work, unfortunately. It gives me the option to duplicate the screen, but it won’t do it. All I can do is extend the display, which does not help me, since I am using the tablet as is, not with a mouse.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Gil,

Thank you for waiting, we’ve been doing some testing around the office with our Dell Venue 8 Pros and it seems like that mirroring is currently not possible. As of right now, we’re unsure where the problem is located, whether it is a Windows update, a Dell update, or an Intel update that has resulted in mirror mode not working anymore.

Unfortunately, we do not have any more information other than that.

Thanks again for looking into this.

Can you test the USB 2.0 adapter (Plugable USB-VGA-165 USB to VGA Adapter) with the Dell Venue 8 pro and a projector to see if the mirroring functionality works.

If it does, then I will buy that one also.

Hi Gil,

Unfortunately, none of our DisplayLink based products seem to offer the mirroring functionality.

To add a bit more information to that statement, we’re not exactly sure what is going on with the Dell Venue 8 Pro, as it is the only case that has shown to have issues with mirror mode. For instance, mirroring works completely fine on the Surface.

We suspect that the problem is most likely with the customized Dell graphics drivers, but we don’t have any definitive information.

Has there been any update on the matter since this post was published?

Hi Stephen,

Do you have any updates to share about the posted question related to mirroring the display? I would like to use my Dell venue 8 pro for projector presentation using a powerpoint and mirroring is the best option. Can you give me some hints on how to do it? Thanks.

Hi HeeVen,

Unfortunately, the problem with mirroing on the Dell Venue 8 Pro and other Bay Trail devices still remains. Presently, there is no way to mirror with the smaller tablets like the Dell Venue 8 Pro. This is most likely a conflict between DisplayLink drivers and the Intel drivers.

I am using the Plugable USB-VGA-165 USB to VGA Adapter with my Dell Venue Pro 8 and it is mirroring OK. However the projector display is rotated 90 degrees. Still trying to figure this out.

did you find out how to solve this rotation issue?

March 2015…having trouble duplicating Dell Venue Pro 8 5830 using a Dell Cast. I can extend but not duplicate. Yet I can screen share my Galaxy S5 using the Dell Cast, but not Dell’s own Venue Windows Tablet!
