Corded mouse lag with UD-ULTCDL

I have my new UD-ULTCDL connected to a new Razer Blade 2017 through its TB3/USB-C port. Peripherals are two Dell U2410 monitors by HDMI, a Corsair corded gaming keyboard and Corsair corded gaming mouse, and an external USB3 hard drive.

Everything is just about perfect with this setup! Video works great with no lag on the dual displays. Ethernet and sound both work, the external drive is fast, the keyboard is perfectly normal as far as I can tell.

However, the mouse lags or “sticks” every few seconds, making it frustrating to work with. It works fine when plugged directly into the laptop, but that defeats the purpose of a dock, obviously. I have tried both front and back ports on the dock with no luck.

Windows 10 USB drivers are all current as of 2018 in the device manager.

If this can be fixed, I’d be one happy camper!

Hello Joel,

Thank you for contacting Plugable support! Sorry to hear about this issue. I’d be more than happy to assist you.

From our website troubleshooting section:

Problem: My wired (or wireless) mouse and/or keyboard are experiencing lag/latency (jumpy/jerky mouse pointer movement, missing key-presses, duplicate key-presses, etc) when connected to the dock.

Solution: Dell released a patch that changes a Windows Registry entry related to the Intel Management Engine that is not Dell exclusive which has resolved these issues for several of our customers using a range of different host systems from different manufacturers. We recommend to try installing this patch if you have some of the aforementioned issues:

Hi Josh, thank you for pointing this out as I had not seen this suggestion mentioned when browsing around in the forums for solutions.

I installed the Dell patch, however, it has not made a noticeable difference in my case, unfortunately. It’s no worse, at least.

One thing I’ve noticed is that the lagging seems to be worse on more complex screens. E.g. if I move the pointer around on an empty desktop, it is pretty normal. If I’m moving around on a screen full of video thumbnails such as Youtube’s homepage, it is very jerky to the point of being difficult to use.

If you have any other suggestions, I’m all ears!

Thanks!

Hi Joel,

Thanks for trying that. If it’s primarily happening on screens with video, etc going on, it may just be due to the fact that two of the three ports on the dock are using virtual USB graphics technology vs being piped directly to the graphics card in your laptop. If you have a monitor connected to the “4K” HDMI port, does content & mouse pointer on that monitor behave better than say the content on the “2K” HDMI or DVI ports which are USB graphics based?

Thanks,
Josh
