Compatability with Magtek imager and Windows 8

Have two separate Windows 8 64 bit systems with Plugable USB Serial Converters connecting to Magtek check imagers. 75%+ of check scan images are trashed (lines, garbled, noisy) and only a few % of check images come out perfect. Both systems are identical and having the same exact problem… have tried swapping imagers and cables…same issue. Compatability problem with Windows 8??? Any suggestions???

Hi Dean,

Thanks for posting your question here, we’ll be happy to help. It’s unusual that the serial connection will work intermittently as you described. Were you able to run the Magtek imager with Windows 7? Is there a Win 8 specific version of the Magtek drivers / software?

If it’s at all possible to test your imager on a Win 7 system that would be a great way to narrow down if it’s a Win 8 specific issue.

You can also try changing the input and output buffer settings in the advanced properties for the serial cable. To get there find the cable in device manager, then select the port setting tab, the click the advanced button.

I hope this helps, let me know what you find.

Thanks,
Jerome
