cant get second monitor to work

I have a pluggable usb3.0 docking station and I am trying to get it to work on a MacBook that has been bootcamped to windows 10. We can get the laptop screen to duplicate over to one of the monitors and on the display settings screen it shows as screen 1/3. does anyone know how to get both monitors to work?

Hi Patrick,

Thank you so much for reaching out to us, I am sorry to hear that you are running into this issue, but I would be more than happy to assist!

If you you have a moment, head into “Windows 10 Display Settings” on the bootcamp system, and then look for the label that says “Multiple Displays”. With the “1/3” box selected (Should be blue) use the drop down menu to select the option (“Extend desktop on display 1 and 3”) if you are intending to have all of the individual displays be separate screens.

If this is not the configuration you are looking for, which of the displays on the UD-3900 docking station is not working correctly? Is it the DVI or HDMI based display?

where do I find the windows 10 display settings on the bootcamp system? I looked in the task tray for it and couldn’t find it.

Hi Patrick,

If you head to the bottom left hand side of your desktop, where the search bar is, type “Display Settings” and then press enter. This should take you inside of Windows 10 Display Settings, showing all of the individual displays that are being read by Windows, and whether they are mirrored or extended.

When you found that the screens showed 1/3, were you inside of Intel Display Settings, or utilizing a third party application?

that took me to the standard windows display settings

we got it to work. However is there a way for him to close his MacBook and still have the display’s working? When he closes his MacBook the external displays shut off as well.

Hi Patrick,

That is where you should be going in order to adjust the individual orientation and extension of the connected external displays. Utilizing the Intel Display Settings can sometimes cause issues that can be overridden by the Windows 10 Display settings.

In order to utilize the connected displays while the Macbooks lid is closed, you will need to adjust the individual Power Management Settings to “Do nothing” when the lid is closed. This will allow you to utilize the connected displays when the Macbook is closed.

Hi Everyone,

We were happy to help Patrick work through some of the individual issues he was experience, as well as provide additional issues for maximizing his intended configuration.

Although we did resolve the major issues, we did not receive a response back regarding utilizing the docking station with a BootCamp based Mac, while the lid is closed. If Patrick, or any other individuals, have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us directly at support@plugable.com, and we would be happy to assist!
