Acer Aspire S3, windows 8 USB 2 Ethernet adapter not working

Hi all,

I’ve got an acer Aspire s3 running Windows 8 and can not seem to get the USB 2 Ethernet adapter working. I’ve downloaded the up to date drivers from the site and still no joy. Can anybody help?

Hi Nick-

Thanks for posting with your question, sorry to hear the USB2 Ethernet adapter isn’t working. Thanks for also verifying that you were able to install the driver. Do you have the 10/100 or the Gigabit adapter?

As a first step, I’d recommend checking Device Manager to see if the network device is listed (the 10/100 adapter will show up as an ASIX 88772 adapter, the Gigabit model shows up as a ASIX 88178 adatper). If there are any error messages here, or if you don’t find one of the devices, please let me know.

To open device manager, simply press the Windows Key+R at the same time, type devmgmt.msc, and press enter. You’ll want to look first under network device, and since you’ve already installed the driver we’ll expect no error conditions here. If the driver installation wasn’t successful, or if the wrong driver was installed, we’d find a device under “other devices.”

If the device is listed normally in device manager, please let me know what the status of the LED’s on the device is. Normally we’ll find a solid green LED to indicate a link, and another flashing yellow one whenever an active transfer is underway.

Again, thanks for posting with your question. With a few additional details I’m confident we can get you up and running.

Best wishes-

Hi,

I have the same problem on my Aspier S3 running Win7. Device Manager doesnt indicate any errors and the driver shows up to date with ASIX 88772A USB TO FAST ETHERNET ADAPTER.

No indicator lights are ON on the device(adapter) but when the same is plugged to a desktop PC it is ON an works!
