3TB wd hd on esata/usb2.0 hd Docking station

Hello All I am hoping someone can Help I have a WD 3TB drive that I want to get data off before wiping it
I Already have 2 HD already in my PC 1 of which is the one I want to transfer data to My Problem is the Hard drive in the docking station only shows 5 of the 6 partitions
I want to copy the data from all the partitons over one has worked the latest Partition 5/6 has 1TB Data on it and a 18 HR Clone has just failed!

What can I do to get the data off ? could I clone the earlier partitions 1-4 then delete the partitions them will the other 2 partitions appear? properly

Thanks in advance for the help

Hello,

Thanks for contacting Plugable!

Some partitions on a hard drive only contain system information or recovery partitions. So it is normal to not back up every single partition of a hard drive.

If you are unable to see a partition on your hard drive that you know contains important data, we strongly recommend contacting a local computer repair shop so they can salvage the data for you.

Hi John Thanks for the reply I know there is important data on there myself & I am willing to try it myself as I know quite a bit about IT have you got any suggestions on how ? if I plug it back into a PC and delete the partitions I have copied the data from will I see the missing partition when I plug it back into the Docking Station?
Thanks

Hello,

Unfortunately there is no bulletproof way to force a partition to appear since there are so many possible causes. What may work for one case could destroy your data in another. Hope that makes sense.

If a partition is not mounting in our dock, the fastest way to gain access to the missing data is to return the drive to its last known good location to back up any important data.

If this is not possible, we strongly recommend taking the hard drive to a local computer repair store so they can troubleshoot and identify why the partition is behaving in this way.

Hi Again Jordan I dont really want to do that as I know the data is fine when I plug it into a another machine I can see all the partitions fine it just when its in the docking station.! I do have 90% of the data somewhere else & I am going to wipe it anyway to put windows 10 on it
So I was just wanting to double check if I could see hard drive wise from a docking station see the whole hard drive !

Hi there,

Yes understood. Unfortunately to isolate what could cause a single partition to go undetected requires doing several diagnostics. This requires special diagnostic programs and expertise, and still may be inconclusive.

If the data can be read in the last known location, then the fastest way to recover the data would be to put the drive back in the last known good location and backup the important data to another temporary location.

Then you can reformat the drive in our dock and it will complete erase all data and partitions, which will give you a fresh disk that is 100% accessible. So for example, if you install Windows 10 on this hard drive, then you can migrate the important data back onto the drive from the other temporary location.

Hope this helps!

Thank you,
Jordan
